Did the Sun split apart? No. But there’s also something else going on

By Sibu Tripathi: Several reports said that something snapped off the Sun as the planet continues to be torn apart by climate change, natural disasters, and terrible extreme events. Others made explicit claims that the Sun has broken apart and that people ought to be concerned.

These rumours are unfounded and illogical. Nothing has come loose from the Sun’s surface.

The debris that broke off of a filament on the northern limb of the Sun and stayed overhead for hours caused a polar vortex to form. Dr. Tamitha Skov, a space weather physicist, tweeted the information along with a video demonstrating the break-off. Since this event has not resulted in any Coronal Mass Ejection, Earth is not in danger.

While many nations are getting ready to better understand the Sun, India will launch its solar mission Aditya L-1 this year to more accurately predict solar eruptions. With the use of instruments aimed at the Sun’s corona, the Aditya L-1 will be able to understand the physics underlying the enormous eruptions that are currently occurring on our star.
