New Copilot Capabilities, Generative Erase, and Other Updates Are Added To Windows 11

While Microsoft continues to provide feature upgrades for Windows 11, Windows 12 is still a ways off. The “Moment 5” optional upgrade, which includes enhancements to Copilot, enhanced window snapping, enhanced generative erasure in the Photos app, and silence removal in Clipchamp, has been announced by Microsoft.

Windows’ Copilot Receives New Skills and Plugins

Windows Copilot currently allows you to access information from a variety of apps and services using plugins. Microsoft will be releasing further Shopify, Klarna, and Kayak plugins over the coming weeks.

You will also be able to access additional tools and information and modify a greater number of PC settings with Copilot in Windows later in March.

The following commands will be accessible in Windows through Copilot:

A new AI-powered feature called Generative Erase is coming to the Windows 11 Photos app. It will allow you to eliminate undesired things from your photos.

Eliminating Silence in Clipchamp

A new AI-powered silence removal tool is being added to Clipchamp, a Windows video editing program, to help eliminate audio track silences that occur during discussions. A preview of this is accessible as of right now.

Speech Access Now Supports Multi-monitor Setups and Personalized Speech Commands

You can use voice control to operate your Windows 11 PC as an accessibility feature. This update adds support for custom voice commands to Voice Access. Certain voice commands can be linked to various actions, like pasting test results, opening an application, and pushing a combination of keys.

Support for multiple display configurations is also added to voice access, allowing for rapid screen switching.

Other Noteworthy Alterations

Apart from the aforementioned aspects, Microsoft is also enhancing multiple additional facets of the Windows 11 user experience:

  • Based on your usage history, Windows can now make intelligent suggestions for snapping your programs. When you frequently utilize two programs side by side, Windows 11 will recommend that set of apps for you to use.
  • Widgets: Windows allows you to customize widget arrangements and conceal the news feed.
  • With Windows Ink, you can now use a stylus to draw directly on text fields, much like you can on iPad OS.
  • Increase the number of third-party apps with which you can share content: Windows 11 now supports file sharing with WhatsApp, Instagram, Snapchat, and other apps. Facebook Messenger compatibility will be added soon.

Rollout of Windows 11 Moment 5 Update

Windows 11 will get these new features via a combination of system and app updates. Although the rollout has already started, it can take some time to reach every user. For eligible devices running Windows 11 version 22H2 or 23H2, Microsoft will make these improvements available through the optional non-security update release at the end of the month. By the time of the April 2024 security update release, the majority of these functionalities ought to be widely accessible.
