Should you invest Rs 18,999 on the Oppo A78 5G smartphone?

Author: Abhik Sengupta As time goes on, 5G will become the standard. Three new 5G-capable smartphones from Xiaomi India were just released alongside the Redmi Note 12. This week, Samsung is expected to introduce a number of products with 5G connection. The new Oppo A78, which costs Rs 18,999 and supports six 5G bands, has just been announced by Oppo.

When it comes to price, the Oppo A78 5G squarely competes with the Redmi Note 12 5G, which I recently reviewed. Although some former Redmi users may think the latter is a little bit pricey, it is still a good option. On the other hand, long-time Oppo users won’t be too shocked because their 5G devices normally cost more than Rs 15,000. However, a smartphone is more than just a 5G connection, and OEMs shouldn’t skimp on some features regardless of price range. For Oppo’s most recent 5G smartphone, especially in 2023, I anticipate the same.

The Oppo A78 5G appears respectable on paper. It has a Dimensity 700 SoC, a 90Hz display, and dual cameras. Additionally, the phone has a 5,000mAh battery with 33W charging (charger included in the box). I also think it’s great that manufacturers of Android smartphones are gradually moving away from 64GB storage; this is the right direction. In that case, there is only one model of the Oppo A78 5G available, which offers 128GB of storage and 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM—a respectable configuration for the price.

My recommendation would be to take it into consideration if the Oppo A78 5G’s price reduces to Rs 15,999. It is a respectable option even at Rs 16,999, but the competition becomes more intense at this price. Otherwise, it would be worthwhile to hold until till Samsung and other OEMs release new models, which won’t be too long. I have no doubt that Oppo will surprise us.
