Speaking about quitting alcohol, Javed Akhtar claims that life itself is the biggest addiction

Javed Akhtar, who is renowned for being straightforward in life, recently shared his secret to quitting drinking. The well-known songwriter said that if he hadn’t been able to control his alcoholism in the past, he would have passed away too soon.

Javed acknowledged in an interview that he used to drink for enjoyment rather than to deal with any grief. He continues by saying that he wasn’t sobbing his sorrows away. But he finally realized if things go like this and he can’t quit drinking then he would die by 52-53.

The renowned author told how, after downing a sizable bottle of rum on July 31, 1991, he fully gave up drinking starting on August 1. Javed affirms that he hasn’t had even one glass of champagne in the intervening years. When asked how he managed to do it Javed insists that willpower is nothing. It is actually the intensity of desire and according to him the biggest addiction is living and there is no bigger addiction than living.

The renowned author described how on July 31, 1991, he drank a large bottle of rum, and on August 1, he fully stopped drinking. Javed affirms that in the years since, he hasn’t even had a taste of champagne. Javed maintains that willpower is useless when asked how he managed to do it. It is essentially the intensity of yearning, and in his opinion, there is no addiction more powerful than life itself.
