Amazon Launches GenAI to Generate Product Listings From Online Sellers

A new feature called GenAI (generative artificial intelligence) is being released by Amazon to assist sellers in creating listings for the company’s store.

The technology behemoth announced in a press release on Wednesday, March 13, that this new feature enables sellers who operate their direct-to-consumer (DTC) website to submit that URL to Amazon and subsequently receive product listings for the Amazon store, which are produced by the new GenAI feature.

The statement from Amazon stated that “this will further enhance and streamline the process of creating product listings, saving our selling partners more time and effort while developing listings for Amazon’s store that appeal to customers and help drive sales.”

U.S. sellers will have access to this capability in a few weeks, as stated in the release, which is currently being rolled out.

According to the release, it will complement some GenAI-powered features that were introduced last fall and create product listings based on brief text or an image.

According to the release, these features let sellers submit a product image or a few lines of text, and they will automatically generate a product title, description, and other attributes using GenAI. This process enhances the product page’s search results. Due to this capability, sellers no longer have to develop and enter product details in order to create a product page.

Sellers have approved nearly 80% of the GenAI-generated listings with only minor edits since the features were introduced, and more than 100,000 sellers have used them, according to the release. Additionally, sellers have reported that the features have saved them time.

As stated in the release, “Amazon is continuing to partner with small businesses to create an amazing shopping and selling experience. Improving and streamlining listing creation is an exciting example of how our selling partners are already benefiting from Amazon’s generative AI investments.”

In September, eBay announced that it was conducting a beta test of an image-based listing tool. This tool will enable sellers to take or upload a photo within the eBay app and watch as artificial intelligence fills in the details of the item. This is just one recent development in the space.

A tool that leverages GenAI to generate distinctive product images for retailers was unveiled by Google in May. Visual content for merchants’ seasonal promotions, targeted campaigns, or creative projects is produced by the company’s Product Studio.
