Samsung Introduces AI Technology in Latest TV Lineup to Compete with LG’s OLED TVs

In an effort to compete with LG Electronics Inc., its crosstown rival and the industry leader in the organic light-emitting diode (OLED) TV market, Samsung Electronics Co., the largest TV manufacturer in the world, announced on Wednesday that it will be incorporating artificial intelligence technology into its 2024 TV lineup.

Samsung unveiled its new Neo QLED and OLED TV lineup, which will go on sale this Friday, at its Unbox & Discover 2024 launch event.

The AI technology, initially unveiled by the South Korean tech giant with the flagship Galaxy S24 smartphone series, is integrated into the most recent models.

Leads the way in the trend of ultra-large and premium TVs, the Korean market is an important global player. Samsung Electronics, which has held the top spot in the global TV market for the past eighteen years, has reached a new peak with its 2024 model. Head of Samsung’s visual display division and president Yong Seok-woo declared, “We will usher in the era of AI TV.”

With the best performance among Samsung TVs, the top line Neo QLED 8K is outfitted with the third-generation AI 8K processor. It has five hundred and sixty-one neural networks.

UPDATES FOR SAMSUNG AI Televisions

The neural network count on this chipset is eight times higher than that of the TVs from last year. The processor from last year is not even close to this one’s neural network processing unit (NPU) speed.

According to Samsung, the upgraded processor enables the upscale of low-resolution content to 8K resolution, resulting in crisper visuals.

In order to add depth, the Contrast Enhancer Pro feature applies enhancements to specific objects and people after using neural networks to identify subjects in a scene.

With these enhancements, Samsung has also increased the amount of on-demand TV content and personalized content available on the home screen of Samsung TV Plus.

Following the completion of commercials, owners of the 2015-released Samsung TV Plus can access free streaming content.

About 40,000 videos are accessible on Samsung TV Plus, according to Samsung.

According to the company, the on-device AI technology on its so-called Samsung AI TVs has also improved security and inter-device connectivity.

THE LG 2024 OLED AND QNED TV RANGE

Yong of Samsung stated that the company also wants to catch up to LG Electronics, the market leader in OLED TVs.

“Our OLED TVs have grown quickly over the last two years, increasing our segment market to 23%. In Korea last year, our 77-inch OLED TV outperformed the products of our rivals in terms of market”, he said.

As of 2023, LG holds a 53% market and is the leading global supplier of OLED TVs, with approximately 3 million units sold.

LG unveiled its 2024 OLED and QNED TV lineup, complete with improved AI features, for the home market on Wednesday.

According to LG, the Alpha 11 processor improves processing speed and graphics performance over the previous model by 30% and 70%, respectively.
